  1. so true…..here is my case….I’m nearly 59 years of age have over 35 years of Stae-level, Federal-Level and international experience…I was deputy director of internal affairs in the United Nations for one decade…specialised in anti-fruad and anti-corruption..I’ve got a Master of Laws and I’m perfetly bi-lingual in English and French and I’ve trained in diplomacy. I’ve managed task forces and offices of more than 50 international staff. Since my leaving the UN in 2006 I applied for positions in Australia that could do with my experience….and I hardly ever received a response….

Currently I am in Nigeria as a Government Advisor on anti-fraud and anti-corruption policy and legal drafting and designing professional courses being funded by an International Organization…for the next two years…my moving to Nigeria was prompted by the fact that in Australia it seems that I was either “over-qualified” or that simply ” there were much better candidates”…I know that guys like me do not run in the streets in their thousands….yet it seems that to get even a part time job is not possible….When I have managed to get into an interview, it is usually by someone who has not got a clue about the job they are offering….and I can sense the weird attitude that “this guys must be punished and be brought back down to earth…from his overseas experience”….

Very sad in and for a society like Australia….for some of us who have actually contributed to build a fair and equitable society to find ourselves

    Cheers FM.

  2. Older job seekers, the Fitness Industry could and should encourage individuals with qualifications eg Cert 3 & 4 in Fitness, Yoga, Tai Chi and Pilates instructors etc to instruct in their Gyms especially if there is older clients or clients with compromised joints. I am an older Gym owner instructor and am always on the look out for older instructors among my clients. The resources available to this country are inexhaustible with all that work experience wasting because of pure ignorance from the big Businesses in town.
